Sound events lost or changed...

Irene M Kraus

I recently upgraded to Office 2003, and this has changed many of my
stored sound events. Managed to locate the 'new' location for those
connected with incoming mail finally in Outlook. But, several other
changes are mystifying. For example, sound when Recycle Bin is emptied
is no longer heard although it plays just fine when I check it through
Control Panel > Sounds > and in the event setup. If Office 2003 moved
THAT event someplace, I don't know where to look. The sound played when
faxes are sent successfully (or failed) is also gone. Probably a few
others that I haven't had time to notice...

Running XP Pro with SP1 and all patches in place. Sound drivers have
been installed direct from manufacturer's website which are newer than
those offered through Windows update. Nearly all other sound related
operations (Windows Media player, WinAmp, in playing WAV, MID, MP3) work
just fine. Sound problem appears to be limited ONLY to XP events.

Ideas, anyone? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, I don't see one listed by that name there. I'm going to
give this 'fix the ding.wav' option a try to see if that helps. Should
know in a few hours if that will help. If not, I'll do a system restore
to wipe that change out.

This can't be the first time someone's run into this, though this is the
first time I've run into this under XP! Thanks for the help...

Nope, the 'fix' for ding.wav doesn't help, nor does the tip about
'sticky notes.' They are all still gone. Any other ideas?

Sorry, then. Try posting in an Office newsgroup where it is more likely
the posters will have run into this problem. Here's a link to a listing
of MS newsgroups:
