I"m having the same problem alot of people on here seem to be having. I have
no sound from my speakers. I also had to wipe out my hard drive and
reinstall everything. My speakers do not show up as connected. I think I
also need to reinstall the drivers, but I don't know where to go to do that.
I've tried the CD with my DELL that says "Device drivers" but I can't get it
to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially since I can't
seem to find a place to call or email Microsoft directly...

Thanks

Chanda, look on the Dell CD for Audio Device Drivers. I don't know if
you have a sound chip that's integrated on the
Motherboard ( AC' 97, Realtek etc ) or a PCI slot Sound Card. If you
don't know you can get a free program such as
Belarc or Lavaly's Everest and they can provide a Inventory of your
system Hardware and Software. Do a google search
for either. The Audio Drivers usually have a .exe file which when double
clicked should start installing. Post back here if
you need more help.

In addition to the good advice you got from Rich you can contact (e-mail,
chat, phone) Dell directly or find help in the Dell Community Forums. I
personally find the best info on Dell equipment from Dell's own
knowledgebase and the Community Forums:

I had this weird problem of my microphone not being recognized after I
reformated my laptop. Tried a couple of things and this worked. After
formating I had downloaded all the latest drivers from Dell website.
But it seems that my hard drive is not configured for all the latest
drivers and thatz what happened for the SigmaTel driver as well. When I
installed the old audio driver everthn worked like a majic. :)

Exactly!! Awhile back I downloaded a Sound Driver Update ( I admit
Optional ) from MS. Lost my sound. Had to roll
back to the previous driver and sound came back. Uh, if it works don't
fix it......
