sound devices are not detected

I just istalled the upgrade from windows 98 to windows
xp, and now it says that there are no sound devices
hooked up to the computer. I have done everythting that I
can think of and still can't figure anything out. Someone
help me or tell me where to go to get help.
 
Update your sound card drivers from the card makers or the computer makers
website.
