sound card

Hi all,

I've installed a 16 bit PCI soundcard on my machine, and whilst the sound is
there, it's very low. I've done all the usual volume checks, but am told
this is some kind of 'conflict'
The chipset is ESS 1969.

Spec:

Intel 2.4Ghz
512 Kingston
XFX 256 MB
Windows XP home

Prior to the card install, was there a working sound chip on the
motherboard? If so, try disabling it in the BIOS.
