sound card??

I have WinXP.

I use GOM and Windows Media Player as my two fax/picure/video clips viewer.

Neither has volume turned on, when chosen. Other bells and whistle things
tell me the sound card is fine

What are some things I can check to see if it's something simple?
 
Go to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices. Open and under Volume Tab
click on Advanced. Look for any Muted boxes. If
any, Uncheck.
