Sound card diff diag

Hi

Was recording sound in Audacity, and suddenly the recording sound
stream just stopped, and audacity recorded only silence. Sound from
the external source still goes into the pci sound card and out again
to the speakers, so the problem has to be somewhere in the pc. Trouble
is I dont have a spare card, machines dont usually lack onboard sound,
so cant swap and see. Are there any other possibles than a hardware
fault in the card itself? mp3s still play happily through it.

P3 98se 384M with creative ensoniq pci audio card, no problems show up
on the contorl panel system applet

Thanks, NT

Start with the easiest; re-install the drivers. If this doesn't work, turn
off the PC, remove the card and turn on and boot the PC. Then turn off the
PC, re-insert the card and reboot the PC again - let the drivers install
again and see if this helps. You could even try putting the card in a
different PCI slot.

Suppose I overlooked the obvious there, just assumed that wouldnt
cause sudden midstream failure. Will try it, thanks
