Sound and Audio

Every time I switch on my PC my sound and audio device is not recognised. I
still get all the windows sounds, but there is no device recognised so media
played such as audio cd is without sound. My Bios is set to Auto which
disables on-board sound as I have a soundblaster Audigy PCI card installed.
If enter the bios settings then re-start, My sound is restored for that
windows session. Has anybody any ideas what the problem could be?

Is there a bios setting to explicitly disable onboard sound?
Is there a bios update available, that may address this problem

have tried disabling onboard sound in the bios but the symptoms remain. Cant
remember how to see what BIOS I have and hence obtain a bios flash?
