Sorting messages in Inbox

version: MS Outlook 2002 (10.6515.6735) SP3

Because I have very good experience with this group I address you with
my another "problem": I need to sort messages in the inbox according
to dates of receipt. If I set it up, Outlook sorts messages according
to the date and time, seconds... The result is that every message is
sorted and divided by another line with information about date and
time. Very annoying.

Tks a lot for your time.
Palo.

Clicking on the header of any field will sort the records by that field in
ascending or descending order. In your case, click on the header of the Received
field to achieve your goal.

....and it produces the results I have described - sorting according to
the date-hour-min-sec i.e. every message has its own further line. :-(

Is it sorting and grouping?
Are you wanting to sort by date only (i.e. 03/11/08 without hour/sec) or by
today, last week, two weeks ago, last month, etc?

Sounds like we're not using the same view. Click on View > Current view >
Messages. Is this the view you're using? If not please advise which view and
exactly how you're "sorting" it.

Supplemental:

I'm running Outlook 2002 (10.6822.68) SP3. Under the format options for that
field there is no time option that offers hour:min:sec, only hour:min is
available.

You appear to have a grouping in force that is causing the supplemental lines.
You can clear this by clicking on View > Current View > Customize Current View >
Group By > Clear All.

Based on the differences in our version levels, it appears that you may also
have some updates pending. Go to the Office Update site to verify.

You could customize the 'Received' column to just show date and time as
YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM (no seconds); in this case I think only one line per
message is shown. At least this is what my Outlook 2003 does.

Sorting by "today, last week, two weeks ago, last month, etc" - this
is right!! This is what I want to get.

Those are groupings and not available until Outlook 2003.
