sort table of figures alphabetically

Anyone know of a way to sort a table of figures by label name rather in order
of apperance within the document?

What if instead of generating a List of Figures, you manually create a
table or list made of cross references to the figure captions? Then
you could sort those paragraphs.

I figured an easier way I think. 1. select all the entries. 2 Convert to
table. 3. Sort table. 4. Convert back to text. This works fine but then I
want to automate it with a macro but am havinging difficulty getting record
macro in word 2007 to do what was easy in word 2000 that is: do all the above
in a macro recording. Now word 2007 doesn't allow me to use the right click
functions.

It is NOT necessary to convert to a table (and then of course you don't have to
convert back). Just select the text -- one item per paragraph -- and click the
Sort button (the A-Z button in the Paragraph group on the Home menu) and click
OK in the Sort dialog. This is so simple that it shouldn't need a macro.

Wow! You are absolutely right. I didn't believe I could sort the table but it
does indeed work. Thanks.
