Sort problem

Suddenly, when I use the open dialog from any application (Its fine from the
desktop), my files display in date modified order - not alphabetic order,
which always used to be the default. This is particularly annoying as I
always have to click on the dropdown to re-order the view. There used to be
a little dot next to the current view option but there isn't now
