Downloaded and installed SonicStage again from Sony a while ago and for the
first time in over ten weeks since reformatting my HD and reinstalling WinXP
the program doesn't cause a reboot into safe mode any more.

If you haven't already, see also:

Yeah, but does it still require running as an Administrator?

And can it convert files to ATRAC to fill up a 6GB Sony player in under
a month?

I've ditched SonicStage it was so bad!

I use MusicMatch's JukeBox to rip my CDs to mp3s and transfer them to
my Sony E407 1Gb player using Sony's MP3FileManger - drag and drop from
Windows Explorer - no problem at all.

Only thing to watch is that the files need to be MPEG1 not MPEG2 mp3's
which my player does not support - luckily JukeBox encodes to this
standard without playing around with its config.

Mp3FileManger is available as free download from the Sony Support site,
have a look at the downloads for your player - perhaps its compatible
with it.

I'd gladly ditch too it if there were an alternative.

My player's an NW-HD3. I can't find any (English) links that contain both
"Mp3FileMan[a]ger" AND "NW-HD3".

Since SonicStage (may its authors fry in Hell for all eternity) is now
working again (touch wood) I suppose I should probably leave well enough
alone...
