Sony Micro MV

I have purchased a sony Micro MV recorder, I am running
Windows XP, but when i turn on the camera connected to the
firewire port on the PC it does not reconise the camera
and when trying to edit capture the information from the
camcorder nothing happens. Is windows XP compatable to run
movies from this camera. Sony DCR-1P7E?

Is the camera turned on in VCR mode or in Record mode.... it should be
turned on in VCR mode in order for the software program you are using to be
able to capture from it.
