Sony cd & dvd drives

Everything was fine untill today when I updated windows..
service pack & updates.. I also installed pinnacle
studio... why shoul I now lose both my cd & dvd drives...
(same message applies to both) they also have the black
exclimation mark in yellow circle next to their
description in device manager..

message reads...

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its
configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete
or damaged. (Code 19)

how do i resolve the problem.. I have also mislaid the
discs that came wth each drive.. d'oh

I would suggest you uninstall them under device manager
shut down
remove them physically from the machine
reboot without
shut down
reinstall
reboot with
and let XP redetect them
