Sony Cameras and Movie Maker

Greetings:

After shooting exceptional footage on an upscale sony
camcorder I find the rendered product to be of marginal
quality. They are clearly darker and less sharp than the
source and I find that the action seen in the project
phase and the finished movie periodically freezes or
accelerates. I've seen some references to these issues on
the Papa John MVP site but I have not found a concise
listing of issues and solutions. I also own but have
never used Adobe Premiere. Can one use the footage
transferred to computer in Movie Maker 2 as a source to
redo the movie with Premiere. Advice sought.
