Sonic Update Manager

I just got a New Computer from Dell. I get Messages that Sonic Update
Manager wants to install and I need to insert the disk and click OK. I don't
seem to have a disk with a file called 'UM.MSI'. Dell won't speak to me
since i didn't buy their software warentees. I had no idea that they weren't
even going to make sure the software was properly installed before they sent
it to me. So...........do I need to go to a shop or what to fix my problem?

Try manually updating Sonic..

Or uninstall all the Dell installed trials/offers/crud and install your own
stuff.

Get Nero, ditch Sonic.

From a post on Dell's forums :
The Sonic updating software is actually a program made by Install Sheild
that can be used to update a wide variety of programs in its generic form.
I purchased a Dimension desktop with this same problem and to fix it you
need to go to
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q111006
and download the Update Manager from Install Shield. Sonic Update Manager
simply works through that program, and I believe it's that programs files
that it looks for, because downloading it fixed problem.

Frankly, as Mike Cawood has already recommended, you'd be better off
uninstalling the "version" of Sonic installed by Dell and purchasing Nero.
There is *no* way to obtain the software from Dell if one needs to
reformat|reinstall. It can be obtained from Sonic via their so-called
" Sonic Online Login " web page that never seems to work ;)

thankyou. i just got the fix and REALLY appreciate you sharing that I'm not
the only one who had this problem. I guess i was wrong to expect that if i
was paying them to put in software I would work when i got it. Thanks again

You're welcome. Yup, they expect you to do the work, although that's not
what you meant ;)
