Sonic Focus requires DirectX 5.0 or later

We keep getting an error message saying
"Could not create Direct Sound Object
Sonic Focus requires DirectX 5.0 or later.
and this keeps popping up on screen,
Intel(R) Audio Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Any ideas how to fix this?

What version of DirectX is installed?
Click Start > Run, type in: dxdiag and Press Enter.
The version is at the bottom of the System Information section.
