Song keeps playing, but slide is not progressing after relinking m

My presentation has about 8 songs. The pres. was complete, but the music was
linked to files from the internet. Since I need to be able to burn the
presentation as a Package for CD, I purchased the music files and put them in
a folder on my desktop--all mp3 files. Before, when I played a single slide
in custom animation mode, it showed the time line and immediately cut out of
play mode after the last animation or action ended. AFter inserting the new
music link, even though all the animation is completed, the music keeps
playing and the slide won't end. And in full presentation mode, the same
thing happens. I think the song is playing in full before letting the slide
progress even though it is set to play over 4 slides. How can changing the
music link path keep the slides from progressing?

Thanks for your response, TAJ. Do you think it is the MP3 file not being a
WAV file that is causing the slides not to progress? I guess I don't
understand why the same songs from a different link location would all of a
sudden keep the slides from transitioning until an entire song is played even
though the sound is set to run over 4 slides. The link is obviously being
seen because it is bringing in the new music and starting it on cue--it just
won't follow the slide transition cue anymore. Will converting to WAV
necessarily solve the slide transition problem? Thanks for your help.
