Sometimes it gets to POST and sometimes not... ???

Hi:

I have a Gigabyte 6VXE MBO (It's quite an old board, I think it was built in
'99 or thereabouts).

I am having some strange problems... when i turn it one, sometimes it gets
to the POST and sometime not.

What could possibly be the problem?

Ooops, I forgot to mention, even when it gets to the POST, when i go into
the BIOS, it does not recognize the existence of the hard disk.
