something weird happened, SCREWED

so im in the middle of watching a dvd on my laptop, and everything is going
fine, then it starts stuttering, i heard to fix this to uninstall service
pack 2, so i do that, and

1.) now everytime i restart my computer, it reboots as if its in safe mode.
the toolbars arent smooth like they normally are in XP, and i cant play music
on my computer, i get the follwing error message:

Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another
device in configuration. Error code: 99780078


2.)also when i go to right click on my computer then go to hardware, and
device manager, NOTHING SHOWS UP...... what the he hell,

3.)and finally when i try to update with windows update everything
downloads, but when i go to install the status bar stays blank the whole time.

WHAT IS WRONG AND WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX IT. nothing shows up relating to
hardware in the system tray either, usually i see my network connections, but
nope none of that there anymore.

Backup all data that you can't afford to loose. If need be put the
drive in another XP computer as a slave drive and copy the data that
way, then start with a repair install:

If the system had been operating ok after SP2 and then the DVD "stutter"
problem arose, removing SP2 would not have been my first choice.

Hi,

What does a stuttering movie have to do with SP2? If your computer has been
operating fine since SP2 install, then its not SP2. Sometimes a simple
reboot, then restart the DVD would fix the problem. In a lot of cases,
uninstalling SP2, especially after some time has passed since the install,
can screw the machine up, especially if you do not follow the steps on how
to properly unistall a service pack.

i read somewhere that SP2 changes the video card speed which can cause
sutterring

Hi,

If SP2 would not change anything on the video card, unless you had an older
driver. When you installed SP2, you should make sure you also have the
updated drivers for any hardware. But as for video card settings, you can
go and manually check them to see if anything was changed and adjust them
yourself. That doesn`t give you a good enough reason to uninstall
something, especially a service pack. Most people make the mistake and jump
the gun thinking its the service pack. You should have done basic
troubleshooting before doing something major, removing the service pack.
This forum is a good place to start, you could have stated that problem and
many of the MVP`s and others could have given you suggestions on what to
try, where to look. Please try that next time, before unistalling
something.
