TweakUI allows you to revert to Classic Search
http://www.petri.co.il/restore_classic_search_in_windows_xp.htm

The most recent version also lets you to turn off the new "intuitive"
file sorting system.

Well, not entirely classic search (not classic win98). And it still
doesn't show all files. But thanks for the tip.

The most recent version also lets you to turn off the new "intuitive"

Especially this, i'm not sure i have the latest version of TweakUi

THANK YOU!!! I've had that for ages and use it exclusively, but I have /no/
idea where I got it. I hesitated to recommend it since I wasn't sure if it
was truly freeware or something left over from another uninstalled app.
It's great--and fast.

I really like TrackerV3,though it may be larger than you want. Guess it
depends on your definition of "hulking".
