Some Vista questions

Robert Meek

I'm running WinXP Pro on a Dell XPS 600 w/Raid 0 setup dual hard drives to
look like one, 2 gog ram, and an Nividia GeForce dual board SLI graphics
system and Soundblaster card, ethernet 100 for cable access to internet.
I'm waiting on delivery of Vista Ultimate Upgrade version and I would like
to be able to install Vista while at the same time cleaning everything off
my system and then re-installing. In other words, I want to know if it is
possible using this upgrade to Vista to start the installation process and
have it reformat as NTFS my hard drive(s) so that only a clean version of
Vista is left installed? Or must I reformat my HD first, and then install
the upgrade? And if the latter, will the upgrade allow this not finding a
copy of WinXP on the system? Any clues to the best way of handling this
situation would be helpful as my registry is pretty fouled up and I wish to
re-install many of my applications anyway. Thanx in advance!

You can have Vista any way you want. You can go through the install routines
and upgrade .. you can install clean from scratch .. or you can install
'clean' from within XP, although I'd call that 'semi-clean' :)

If you want to install clean from scratch you must use a lesser known
feature of the install routine as described here by Paul Thurrott:
