some setting are different need corrected

i didnt change any settings but instead of double clicking icons im clicking
an icon or program and options to open or explore etc are what i have to
click how can i fix this

Please excuse me if this sounds basic. However I don't know if you realize
this or not so I will mention it. A typical mouse has 2 buttons on the top.
The one to the left is set by default for opening windows and launching
programs. The one on the right is set by default to open a "context menu" -
like the one you are seeing.

Are you certain you are clicking the left mouse button?

If you are clicking the left button and the "right click context menu" is
opening then it is possible that the buttons have been reassigned or
switched. You can try reassigning them again . This will require entering
the Control Panel and opening the Mouse applet. You can then switch buttons.
Some mice have their own special drivers installed. If so check the systray
at the bottom right corner of the screen and see if there is an icon for the
mouse. You may need to reassign the button setting from there.

My guess is your mouse is switched to left-handed mode (or turned off of
left-handed mode if that is how you usually use it. To check this,
double-click one of those icons with the other mouse button. If that acts
like your normal button used to, do the following.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Mouse
If the "Swap left and right button functions of USB mouse" is checked,
uncheck it.
If it is not checked but you use the mouse as a left-handed mouse, check it.

If it is unchecked but and you use it as a normal right-handed mouse, make
sure the "Left Button" is set to Click and the "Right Button" is set to
Shortcut Menu.

nope i checked that too and they are not reversed

what happend i was playing everquest and in a blink my game setting went
haywire in middle of the game and my mouse vanished where the only way to
exist the game was to shut comp down and when i restarted and went to double
click icon and go back into game to see if it was a glitch was when i no
longer could double click etc

Try a different mouse. The "haywire" behavior could have been the visible
results of the existing mouse failing.

PS: If buttons on mouse are physically stuck, clicking action could have
unexpected results. Another thing to try is cleaning the current mouse.
