The advice from Vince is barely adequate and completely lacking when recommending the AVG from Grisoft for the virus program. No free virus program on the market today is worth anything. Virus programs must be purchased and the best are in this order. Panda, Norton,McAfee. Now for spyware\adware use Spybot Search and Destroy. For BHO (Browser Help Objects )(used by hijackers) get HijackThis or BHODemon. To stop many from loading at all get SpywareBlaster. One last note. The firewall in XP is as good as any on the market today and makes your system virtually invisible to anyone on the net. I should mention it's only good for incoming ports as it doesn't do outgoing. Good luck.

Excuse me........ I am not up on all this techie stuff as many of you are
and there are many like me out there. It was my opinion. The person spent
time writing what he/she felt was basic and I agreed. Who says that if you
pay $80.00 for a Virus program that IT is safe. How many people/business'
had the expensive virus software and got the virus?? The firewall in XP is
worthless. I get pop ups which are most annoying. I have checked several
places and I have ports open. With the basic Zone Alarm I am *stealth* and
no pop ups. Which would you chose?

I know you were giving your opinion but don't knock someone for their
thoughts.

I appreciate your input because what you said was your opinion.

Thanks for your time.

Well said Flo. I use the free edition of AVG from Grisoft, (www.grisoft.com)
and have NEVER had any broblems with virii. Also as you said, the free
version of Zone Alarm keeps an eye on what tries to enter or leave my
computer. Why pay for something that you can get for free?

Regards.....

The statement you just made 'the firewall in XP is worthless' is YOUR opinion.
I ONLY use the firewall and have shut down messenger and don't get any
'popups'. If you are up to date Zone Alarm is not needed at all.
