I have tried to do a fresh install of XP to an empty hard drive, but
the install was stuck on "Setup is analyzing your computer hardware".

None of the below helped:
-Resetting BIOS settings to defaults
-Trying to start the install on a different computer

I came upon the following solution to a different problem, which
worked:

-Disconnect all non-essential hardware, including sound card,
controllers, and even removable drives.
-Ensure the Plug and Play function is controlled by the OS, and not by
the BIOS.

Have a wonderful day and go with God!

Youre doing a clean install of xp,you boot to xp cd,select install xp.How does
setting plug&play to the OS make a diffrence when none exists on the install.

It works, your letting XP find and assign IRQ's instead of the bios.
With NT most USB problems (Plug N Play) were solved by disabling USB
in the bios.
