title right in the image, so that when I am looking at slideshows, I

Nearly all can or should. You can definitely do this with Photoshop; it
would be a monumental overkill to install Photoshop for only this one
feature.

You can add text on your image easily with this software.
Or if you use Faststone to present the slide show you can set it to
automatically add the file name at the bottom of the image. If your file
names are significant as to the content of the image, this is the easy way
out.
