software will not see UPS

hi i have a LG1028C UPS 1400VA and the software that came with it is power
manger UI it is conncted to the computer via a serial port com1 i plug the
ups into the computer and installed the software and the program does not see
the UPS even when you test the prot to see the UPS but in divice manger it
can see that something is pluged in but does not tell you what,
how do i make the UPS and the software talk?

the motherboard is a asus p5w dh deluex , XP pro

Have you checked that the COM port settings (Data bits, Parity, Stop bits
and Flow control) meet the requirements of your UPS.
To do this right click on the My Computer Icon, select Manage then in the
Computer Management window select Device Manager.
You should then see an entry for 'Ports', expand this and double click on
the COM Port.

If software was provided, (the above link really doesn't say) suggest you
see if there is an update for it online or instructions that may have also
been updated since the unit was manufactured..

There is usually a way to set up these older UPS units in
the power options properties.
