anybody know of a font manager-type program that could actually recognize a
font from a GIF?

I was at a web site once where you could upload a portion of text as a
graphic, and it would take its best guess as to which font it was, but I've
lost the URL. Don't give up hope though, as there is definitely at least that
one site out there...

Upload a jpg or gif of the font...accurate on the first try about 40% of
the time for me...often throws up a couple of close ones that are more
readily available.

Thanks guys. It was entertaining to use, at least. However the samples
(from a web site design) are apparently too small.

Make them larger with Gimp (or whatever) and maybe make them manually
neater. That should do it.
