Software to access hard dirve from memory

Hello

I once heard about a software which loads itself into the memory rather than
the hard drive so that you can try to carry out repairs etc on the hard
drive even though it has crashed

Can anybody give me the name of this software please?

All programs run from memory. Nothing runs directly from
the hard disk. If you have a problem with your hard disk
then you should download and run the diagnostic program
that your disk manufacturer has on his web site. It will run
off its own boot disk.

Many viruses run from ram. Best bet is NOT to download them.
