Software installation problems

Dear guys,

i cant express how lucky i'm to be amony your news group thing. however,
i've been experiencing a problem trying to install mostly any software on
my pc. i do think, anyhow, that i suffer either some corrupted regisery
files or windows ones..!! the latest attempt was to install windows update
from MS web page. downloading these files is no prob, but setting them up is
a case.

i run an xp desktop, with 65 + GB, a healthy virtual memory.

pls advise..

Are you logged in as a user that's a Computer Administrator when trying to
install this software?
Are there any entries in your logs that tell you exactly why the installs
fail?
