Cheers mate, have fixed the msi installer problem, any suggestions with the
installshield application not responding when asking for restart and causing
software not to install correctly, but thanks for the other solution!

No, I don't. It seems like you are trying to use some corrupt or
incompatible driver, if it is locking up.

I have a Sony Vaio that will not restore my software from the recovery disk
after the XP Home install. Is there a way to get around this? I hate to
lose all my programs because of a new OS.

I was having problems getting some software to install , the install process
would start, in the middle it would stop, no error or anything, when I went
to shut down the computer right before it shut down, there was the part that
would guide you through the rest of the install but the computer shut down.
I saw a post where it said to right click and RUN AS, then choose
Administrator, I tried this and nothing happened, so I tried it again this
time and choose Current User, there was check box that said Protect my
computer from unathorized program activity, I un-checked this box and clicked
OK then tried to install the software and it worked.
Hope this can help somebody
Ronnie
