Everytime I have tried to install a Security Patch or
something XP will not allow me to do it. If it does it,
the application won't run.

I recently purchased a software product that IS
compatibile with XP and it will not install. I put the CD
in and it won't run. I go to "Run" and type Setup.exe and
it won't start. I go into the actually setup icon and try
to run it that way and it will not run. I have made sure
that the software is actually on the CD.

I have heard after purchasing this operating system that
users have problems trying to install sofware on the
system after you have installed so many. Is this true?
If so, how do you get around it? And how can I fix the
problem that I am having? What is the use of purchasing
software if the operating system won't allow you to
insrall and run it.

Are you installing this software as Administrator or as a User with
Administrator rights? It won't install unless you are either of those.

I have found that the best way to install anything, even
if you do have administrator rights, is to install it
through add / remove programs. This insures that all
users have rights to the applications.

Also, if it is a win98 based app and installs to program
files, give users modify and below permissions. Some apps
require files to be modified.
