Call Microsoft at 1-866-pcsafety.

This may not be within the bounds for a free call--but try it--perhaps it
will be.

im in australia so i dont think that number will work.

plus i dont fancy being on hold for hours, plus the users who own these
laptops dont want me having them all day so they cant get any work done.

i hope MS release a hotfix or patch that resolves this issue rather than
passing he buck.

You're correct.

http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

If you go to the above link, and put in your geographic location, you should
get a number for paid support in your area. I'm not sure whether the number
will be toll-free or not.

I'd give that number a call and ask for the free support with virus,
spyware, or security patch related issues.

I've made such calls a number of times in the past, and I've never spent any
appreciable amount of time on hold. You should also not be asked for
financial credentials until a final determination is made that your case
doesn't qualify for free support.

Engel's thought of using an email support incident is a great idea, but I
suspect that you'll find phone support faster.

Your description is pretty specific. You might find somebody in a peer
support group like this one who knows the answer, but you are far more
likely to get that answer talking directly to Microsoft. Microsoft does not
typically directly answer support requests here.
