able to load and use the following older software on it? I'm looking for help
from anyone with experience using these programs.
Thanks, Jim B

Office 2000 works. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932087 .

Paint Shop Pro 9 will run but not in Aero mode.

Rather than having someone else do the work, why not visit the company
websites and get the answer right from the horses mouth?

Yes to Office 2000 and PSP9. I don't know about the others.

David, I agree with you 100%.
Some people that come here asking for help are getting too lazy!

I plan on buying a new computer to run Vista. Like the original post, I want
to use my existing software on the new system. The main programs I want to
load are Office XP, which is Word 2002, Excel 2002, Publisher 2002, and
Outlook 2002. Will these run under Vista? Are there any patches or updates
involved? Will I be able to buy upgrades to these programs down the road?

Thanks for any help or guidance anyone can provide.

Office XP user here, and I searched the web and found posts saying
it's not compatable with Vista. I haven't tried it myself, though,.

I run Office XP on Vista. The only problematic program I'm aware of is
Outlook. Running Windows update should patch Office XP to its most
up-to-date state.

Just understand that Office XP is not certified to work on Vista, as the
person before me previously said, certain apps like Outlook 2002 will
encounter problems running under it. Make sure the latest Service Packs and
patches have been applied after installing.

Previously posted by MICHAEL:
Outlook 2002 works well with Vista, except remembering email
passwords. Don't look for that to be fixed, either.

You'll just have to keep Outlook opened for as long as you can
if you don't want to enter the password every time.

Does Outlook work on Vista?

Naturally, Outlook 2007, the newest version of Outlook, works well on Vista.
(It also works
great on Windows XP.) Outlook 2003 works well on Vista as well. Both of
these versions are
officially supported on Vista, so if any issues arise Microsoft will offer
public hotfixes or
include the fix in future Service Packs.

Outlook 2002: It runs, but email account passwords are not saved. After you
enter the password
during the first email check, Outlook will remember it until you close down
Outlook. This is
because Outlook used the protected storage interfaces to store passwords and
these are no
longer supported in Vista. Unless Microsoft decides to create a publicly
available hotfix to
address this, you won't be able to save passwords. Outlook 2002 is outside
of mainstream
support so this is unlikely to happen as it's not a critical security hole.

You can use a Windows script program such as AutoIt to enter the password
for you.

Note that when you enter the password, the Send and Receive that brought up
the password dialog
may fail but future send and receives will work. Leave Outlook open 24/7 to
avoid entering it
frequently.
