So are people on or in to social media like Facebook, Twitter & Linkedln etc?
It's not something that has grabbed me to much, dont know if that's because of my age?
Or the fact if i want to contact some one not by email i use the old method of a phone?
Or heaven forbid the royal mail and send a letter, younger folk might not know of this media!!!!

Any thoughts or views people??

I use Faceache to keep in contact with family around the world, and 4 or 5 old school friends. I find it much easier to share photos on Faceache rather than having to resize and send by e-mail, othr than that I use Skype when I play the odd game with friends around the world, and Facetime to keep in contact with family around the world. Oh I have a friend I have known since I was 5 years old who lives in Australia, her and I still send hand written letters to each other every month, it ads a personal touch to it :thumb:

I've used Facebook on a rare occasion but never anymore. Might set it up properaly again soon though if I can be bothered.

I don't tweet because there is enough birds in nature already ( by birds I mean the link below )

Not the one below this Haha

It's all a fad in my eyes really. Hang on I'm standing right next to you but I'll tweet you. Kids don't laugh anymore, they just go LOL with no expression. What's happened with meeting somewhere for a drink/meal to discuss things.

I've seen Twitter and to be honest I didn't really get it. Instagram too, what the hell.

I'll collect my pension now and bid you adieu

Never used Facebook, Twitter or any other Social Media.

Suppose that makes me a miserable old git but I don't care. :D

Prefer to keep myself to myself. You can tell the world TOO much sometimes.

The thing that really annoys me, is the way that so many big businesses/organisations have adopted Facebook/Twitter, as their main way of communicating with the public.

I don't want to sign-up to either one and don't like feeling that I'm being "forced" to do so, simply because I want to get in touch with one of the said companies, for any reason.

The supermarket that we order grocery-deliveries from each week, used to have a forum which was pretty useful. Suddenly, it was closed and a notice stated that we would find them on FB instead! In another example, one of my favourite games has a pretty good forum, yet, if the game goes down, it's more likely that info will appear first, on... yup, FB!

Ok, so if one turns up their FB pages, it's possible to read some of the comments, but as soon as you want a bit more detail on something interesting, a splash screen urging you to Register Now blots everything out. :wall:

Some might say, "what's the difference between using a forum, or registering with FB?" Probably not a huge difference, except the forum option is (imho) a little easier to control. The internet is not a private place, as we all know, but most forums allow for a degree of annonymity, if the poster so desires. We use nicknames etc., our profiles can be expansive, or we can say very little about ourselves. Our choice.

It's my impression that FB registration will pretty much demand to know your mother's shoe-size and dietary preferences. I know there are supposed to be privacy settings, but it seemed to be a whole lot more complicated to set them up (from what I've read about it, that is) than an average forum registration. (Perhaps FB-ers will want to put me straight on that one..? Always happy to listen and learn :))

I'm a regular on Facebook, I like it. Don't use any of the others.

It is a good way of sharing pix and I manage to keep up with what my three offspring are up to although I must admit some of the time I wish I didn't know what they were up to ;)

I don't like the ads but Facebook exists to make money as do most enterprises.

I'm a member of several old music venue pages, including London's Marquee in Wardour Street, but I seemed to have gained a bunch of nutters from one place who remember me but I don't remember them. They are scary

No.

I socialise down the pub. I visit my friends in real time in real life. I keep in touch with folk further afield via an old fashioned landline phone. That is all I have time for really.

I go down the pub, but not as often as I used to.

Truth is, the illnesses I've suffered in the last 8 years have left me a bit battered, couple that with the ravages of time and I honestly don't feel that comfortable with other people in real life anymore. Swollen and saggy face, barely any teeth left, skinny as a rake, that is I.

I'm fine with folk who've known me a long time, I'm also ok with the few customers I have left, they know me. But I see the way strangers look at me and when I do make conversation then my speech defect - caused by a good part of my tongue being cut away - is obvious and sows further doubt.

I've actually learnt some lessons in humility and have developed a great understanding and sympathy with disabled folk because of my relatively slight defects. If people have trouble understanding me cause my speech is iffy, they sometimes start talking slowly to me and looking me straight in the eye, like I'm a penny short of a shilling. I want to scream 'There's nothing wrong with my ears or my brain!'. Well, not yet there isn't anyway ;)

This is me, who was once confident, really didn't think about friends, they were just always there, and was also never short of female company. Oh how the mighty have fallen eh?

Anyhow, because of that I rather like Facebook and the three forums I frequent, they do give me some sort of social interaction and I have a genuine fondness for most of the folk I 'meet' in this way.

And there you have it :)
