Snipping Tool JPG Quality

Is there any way to change the JPG quality when saving an image in the
snipping tool? The resulting JPG's look like the compresion level is set so
high that images have numerous artifacts.

I would save them in PNG, but only JPG supports tags and ratings.

Im wondering if there is a value to specify JPG quality that can be added to:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\TabletPC\Snipping Tool

Hi,
After to select the area you want to copy, select the file tab and then save
as.
Here with the save file type drop down menu you can select png.

Thanks Paul. But I need JPG since PNG dosent support tags and ratings while
JPG does. Its the poor quality of the saved jpg thats the problem.

I noticed when you edit an image in Windows Photo Gallery and save it, the
jpg quality is much, much better. Maybe becuse the compression ratio is lower.

I would like t ochange/adjust the snipping tool's jpg compression ratio to
improve image quality.

If I could find a context menu program to right click a png and convert it
to a jpg that might work. Problem is I dont know of any.

Does screen capture no longer work in Vista? Alt-Print Screen, then
paste to Paint or other graphic program.

Yes it does. I just tried it, but you must paste the whole screen, no
selection like when using the snipping tool.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I ended up using VB2005 to create a
simple exe to convert PNG to JPG. Then registred the exe as a shell extension
for PNGFile. Now I can use the snipping tool, save as a PNG (best image
quality IMHO) then right click the file and select 'Convert to JPG'.

Since I made the converter, I coded/set the JPG compression at 98. So I get
a high quality JPG that I can tag and rate

But it would still be nice if in the snipping tool you could choose the
compression for saving jpg's.
