SMTP server problem

I've been working on this for days now, and am at the end of my rope.

I have a Compaq PC running XP SP1 using a Comcast-provided cable
modem, and use outlook 2003 to access my email (my girlfriend uses
OE). I use Agnitum Outpost Firewall.

Up until about 3-5 days ago, I was able to d/l my mail messages with
Outlook 2003 just fine. Then all of a sudden, after I would press the
send/receive button, it would report "send/receive complete", but no
mail would be sent or downloaded. Using OE, it would just hang and
say "connecting".

I tried everything - inbox repair tool, recreating user profile, clean
uninstall/reinstall of Outlook with all updates, turning off AND
UNINSTALLING virus software, shutting down my firewall, and toggling
Secure Password Authentication. I've searched all over the net for
remedies.

Now the only difference is that Outlook 2003 hangs on "Send/Receive
50%". When I try to test the account settings, it hangs at "find
outgoing mail server" and the entire program locks up. OE still just
says "connecting".

I called Comcast this morning and they say the problem is with my
software.

Any and all help is much appreciated.

Firewall getting in the way?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I had the same problem with Comcast - there is an e-
mail "stuck" in your queue.

The way around it is to log into your Comcast e-mail
through the web can clean out your e-mails (at least as
51% of them).

Then the rest will download. I had a Comcast tech teach
me this
