When I insert a photo in the body of an e-mail, it might be 8" x 10" --
taking up the whole screen. How do I make the photo smaller in the body of
the e-mail. Say, I have 3 photos of peoples faces and I want them all to be
1" x 1" so they don't take up the whole screen. What would I do?

I only know one way. Bear with me, it is not easy for me to explain.
The picture has 4 sides.
If you scroll the inserted picture up/down or left/right, you will notice
that on each side of the picture there are 3 small squares, 1 at each
extreme end, and 1 at the middle.
Put your cursor over one of those squares, the cursor will turn into a 2
pointed line, like this : ( <---> )
Left click and HOLD, move the cursor left/right or up/down, and that one
side of the picture will shrink/expand to the position where you let go the
cursor.
Do it on all 4 sides, and you can shrink/expand the picture to size of your
choice.
I hope I have managed to explain it clear enough.

t-4-2 already showed you how to manually reduce the size if an image in
the mail editor.

You might take a different route: Reducing the size if the pictures
prior to sending them.

One way would be to create a smaller copy if the image. This can be dine
with any graphics tool, f.e. with IrfanView, a freeware application
which IMO should not be missing on any computer anyway.

A built-in way is to select the images(s) in the Photo Gallery and clock
in the e-mail icon.
This will open a dialog where one can set the size of the image.
The same feature is available when marking the image(s) in the Explorer
and select "Send to -> mail" in the right mouse context menu.
