As per title obviously.

Just want to keep a record of some spare parts.
Half a dozen fields. Several thousand records.

TIA Andy

Andy;

Try www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_BUSINESS-HOME.php#2.20Database.
It's the acf listing of freeware databases. I use mysql w/a phpmyadmin
front end. It works well. I've used the OpenOffice 2.0 "Base" but
can't really recommend that.

The OOBase interface is pretty kludgy and I've broken it a few times.
On the bright side, the OO people are looking at a "real" database for
the next round.

"CSVed is an easy and powerful CSV file editor, you can manipulate any
CSV file, separated with any separator. Some features:
* edit, add, insert and delete items;
* import;
* change separator;
* add, delete columns;
* rearrange column order;
* save selection of rows and columns;
* save filtered items;
* save with double quotes;
* search and replace;
* filter items;
* remove duplicates;
* append and merge files;
* install and uninstall
* add prefix and suffix
* split and join columns
* export to HTML, Excel, Word, XML and more
* proper words and strings
* column search
* column sort and global sort
The listview is running in virtual mode, that means the data is
displayed on demand. (not the entire CSV file is loaded in the
listview) so CSVed can handle big files and is very fast."

Thanks for that. It will do all I need without the hunger and complexity of a
more conventional database.

Or try Open Office Calc. Sounds like you could just as easily use a spreadsheet
for this.

Overkill! Why should he install a huge office suite if a simple, small
and fast database program like CSVed does the job perfectly?

You're right and that's what I wanted to avoid. It's only for personal use and
CSVed is perfect. I like the way you can quickly export to HTM, should I
eventually want to share the contents with the rest of this particular Interest
group.

I'll be sending my postcard later today. ;-)
