I got my computer repaired and the man put windows vista on a partition of
8gb, I just updated windows and I am running out of space is there any way I
can increase the size of the partition. I do not have a har copy of vista to
re install only the installed version on the small partition.

Is there anyone who can offer some help please

Hi, Paul,
Right click computer and select manage,
Select Disk Management and open your screen to full,
You should see how your disk looks,
C: drive should be the biggest,
At the top of the screen you should see how much is capacity and how much is
free space.
Usually the 8mb partition is used for recovery in case of disaster.
Don't copy any files there.
C: drive is where the operating system is installed.
You can shrink C: drive and create another partition if you need to.

Vista will not install on 8G partition.

What you are seeing is the Recovery Partition, which you are supposed to use
to make Recovery disks in case of Hard drive failure, and also to use to
repair back to Factory condition in case of Operating System crash.

Leave it alone!

I have two partitions on my HD, one is C:\ with windows vista home prem on it
I chose to update it as I jhaven't had a plug for it for a while and it only
now has 215MB left and the other partition D:\ has one program I've installed

The C:\ drive is 8gb in total and has 200Mb free and,
the D:\ drive is 80gbin total with 79gb free
the C:\ drive is the one with vista on and it's not a recover partition either

Paul,
There is something wrong here,
Vista when first installed is a little over 17GB in size.
After you start adding programs it will jump to, from 22GB to around 35GB in
size.
You say C: drive is only 8GB which doesn't make sense.
Are you booting from D: drive?
Or are you using another computer?

FYI, a fresh, clean install of Vista Business takes up a bit less than 7
GB, and after drivers are installed and the system has been running for
a while (and finished indexing, etc.) it takes up just under 10GB.
However, I don't think it will let you install it on a partition that
small, seems like I remember it requiring 15GB to install.

I wasn't aware of that,
He didn't mention what version he had,

Thanks,
Jerry
