Small Business Server TS License

Simon

I am running SBS with TS server for remote access via Web
and VPN for applications.

I have been testing for 2-3 months now and have just
received a warning that my CAL will expire within the next
few days. I am using XP Pro, which I thought came with 1
valid CAL? Can anyone tell me whether my server needs to
have a specific TS license purchased or whther this is a
normal warning and the CAL will simply renew and start
again?

Appreciate your advice as I am learning this thing as we
go !!!

Actually, no Microsoft OS comes with a license, however,
the TS license server will issue certain Oses (like
Windows XP Pro) a free TSCAL...but I imagine your problem
is that you don't have a license server installed or if
you do have one installed, it isn't activated yet.

Go to your add/remove programs, then add/remove windows
components. Add the TS license server in. Do this on
your domain controller (if you are in an AD domain) or do
this on a member Windows 2000 server (if you are in a
workgroup). Even though Windows XP doesn't require any
extra licences, you need to install the license server and
activate it first to take advantage of these 'free'
licenses.
