Sluggish start up

Hello. I am running XP Pro. When I boot to my desk top every thing goes well.
However, once the desktop first appears, the rest of the start up goes into a
"slow mo". It's like the start up process stops for about a minute and then
continues. After the minute is over every thing works fine. I would like to
know what is going on and how I can stop the 1 minute freeze? All help
appreciated.

Check your System & Application Event Logs. Check for Red
Icons that denote errors. Also, run MSConfig and take a look
at the Startups and Watchdog apps that run when XP is booted.
This can also be caused by Network initialization & related items
such as electing a Master Browser or scanning the network for
shares or printers. Also Anti-Virus and other Security software
can cause some lag in the boot completing, but not to the extent
you mention. Even with AV/Firewall and Startups, from a cold
boot XP should give a useable desktop in around 1->1.5 minutes.

I had a similiar problem and it turned out to be norton antivirus. I
reinstalled it and it seemed fine after that.
