Slow USB connection and network transfer

Hi

I have done a fresh Vista 32 bit install on my Dell Precision 690 (2Gb RAM)
and have found a few things that cause concern:

1) The USB connection is painfully slow - I connect my camera to download
pictures and it is upto 50 times slow than under XP and it often times out.

2) The Vista PC seems to hog the server connection for up to 30 minutes
after a boot, causing other PCs on the same hub to lose their connection
(admittedly via home hub but it never happened with XP)

3) Trouble downloading larger files from the internet.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

You may need to update USB drivers for Vista. Your motherboard supplier site
would have them on Dell online may help in the support section.

You need to find out what runs at boot up that is not on your XP. Vista
itself does not use the internet at start only the setting you have
selected, Such as virus protection.

How many computers are you running on the hub and are they all wireless or
Ethernet cabled. Each one has to share the same line and take it's turn. You
may need to insert a switch in the network to sort out log jams.

Andy,

For your USB problems, go here
https://support.microsoft.com/contactus2/emailcontact.aspx?scid=sw;en;1410&WS=hotfix

Request the hotfix for KB article number 936003
They will email you a link to download the hotfix.
The link below talks about the update.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;936003
Microsoft has released a cumulative update rollup for Windows Vista. This rollup helps
establish a quality baseline for the USB core components on the Windows Vista operating system.
This rollup supersedes previously-released USB fixes and contains additional high-applicability
USB fixes.

Also- what router are you using? Is it an older or newer one?
