Slow to close Word or Word document

I am running Office 2003 and previously ran Office 97. I
am also running Norton Internet Security and use a cable
internet connection which is treated like a network. When
I close a document in 97 or 2003 it takes 20-40 seconds
on average. It take about the same time to close MS Word.
Excel and Powerpoint are real quick to close. Any
suggestion
