closing a word file

rIuse Office 2007 and have been experiencing the following problem for the
past 3 months. If I open a word document and then try to close the document,
after saving it, the document appears to be saved but it leaves a document
type white box open on my screen. Trying to close this white box with
nothing in it is a real pain as I have had to CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to Task
Manager to close Word down. Do I have memory problems or is there something
wrong with the installation of word on my workstation? Need some help as it
is slowing down my productivity and it is really becoming a nuisance.
