Slow startup after expanding RAM

Hey people,
I recently upgraded my computer's RAM from 256 to 768 MB.
I did that because it was running so slow and I had to wait a decade for it
to start up or shut down, not to say that switching between applications was
that slow as well. After I installed the memory module everything worked fine
for a few weeks and now I have the problem with slow startup. Shutdown is OK
and so is working with the applications.
What to do. I did cleanup, defragmented it and it is still the same.
Configuration:
P4-M 2.2 GHz, 40 GB HD, 768 RAM, Windows XP+SP2, Norton Antivarus (I thought
the antiviral software was the problem).
I haven't installed any programs after upgrading the memory aside iTunes and
Quicktime when I got my iPod.

Thx for help in advance

if you do ctrl+alt+delete and then task manager. Click on processes and you
will see everything that is running and using ram. You probably knew that and
this doesnt help at startup, however if you go to start>run the type
msconfig, the click on the startup tab everything that is ticked is loading
on startup. Go through that and uncheck everything you don't need. Restart
and it should boot a lot quicker.

See here for all the translation of what is in your startup tab
