slow starter

any one like to advise me on how to speed up my computer. Im using windows xp
and it takes an age to be able to get in to any file once i have klicked on
my screen name. Ive ran for viruses, scaned drive c and defragmented my hard
disk. Any suggestions would be greatley appreciated.
