Slow start up

Every time when I boot up my Windows XP Home Laptop it boots up very slow. At
first is is quite quick but only till the "Welcome" screen. But there it
needs abour 10 sec to finally load the desktop. Is there a way to speed this
up?
I've already deactivated all the autostart programs and services.

Top 4 reasons for slow startup:

1. Viruses and other forms of malware
2. Too many programs start with Windows
3. Lack of maintenance
4. User misconfiguration.

1. No... My Anti Virus can't find a Virus or anything else.. There is also no
Spyware
2. As I said before. There are only the essential programs in the autostart
3. What do you mean with that?
4. Don't think so...

Any Solutions?

Considering how much detail you provided about your problem, that's all the
help I am able to offer.

Hi Chris,
You didn't tell how much Disk space or RAM installed but anyway, here are
some advise to you written by ( Shenan Stanely ) in another post Hope it will
help you.
Tip1:
Empty your Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files and make sure the
maximum size for this is small enough not to cause trouble in the future.
Empty your Temporary Internet Files and shrink the size it stores to a
size between 10MB and 360MB..

- Open ONE copy of Internet Explorer.
- Select TOOLS -> Internet Options.
- Under the General tab in the "Temporary Internet Files" section, do the
following:
- Click on "Delete Cookies" (click OK)
- Click on "Settings" and change the "Amount of disk space to use:" to
something between 10MB and 360MB. (Betting it is MUCH larger right
now.)
- Click OK.
- Click on "Delete Files" and select to "Delete all offline contents"
(the checkbox) and click OK. (If you had a LOT, this could take 2-10
minutes or more.)
- Once it is done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, re-open Internet
Explorer.

Tip 2:
If things are running a bit slow or you have an older system
(1.5GHz or less and 256MB RAM or less) then you may want to look into
tweaking the performance a bit by turning off some of the memory
using Windows XP "prettifications". The fastest method is:

Control Panel --> System --> Advanced tab --> Performance section,
Settings button. Then choose "adjust for best performance" and you
now have a Windows 2000/98 look which turned off many of the annoying
"prettifications" in one swift action. You can play with the last
three checkboxes to get more of an XP look without many of the
other annoyances. You could also grab and install/mess with one
(or more) of the Microsoft Powertoys - TweakUI in particular:

Hacking Windows XP: Speed Up Your Boot
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1785996,00.asp?kc=ETRSS02129TX1K0000532

Try this.
Start > Run, copy & paste > msconfig & press Enter.
Click on the tab marked "Startup"
Uncheck all the items.
If the problem no longer persists, then one of the items in the startup
is the culprit, you just need to track it down

Not networking, this will help.
1) Control Panel -> Internet Options
2) Connections tab
3) LAN Settings
4) Uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings"

Nass,
Thanks for taking the initiative and making these assumptions, extremely
helpful for those of us who avoid the "set up & settings" side of Windows.
