slow start up on XP

After start up is complete and the desktop appears I am
waiting for a least another 30 sec before i can open
programs or see any icons on the desktop. I have reset to
a previous date and the problem disappears once but then
returns. The computer is new and runs fine apart from
this. I've run out of ideas. Can any one help me,
please.

My name is paul. it takes windows about 30 sec to boot,and to get everything
going,
try cleaning out your temp folder,and your prefetch folder in windows
subdirectory.I find that once i delete these files once a month the computer
runs faster.Paul
