Slow Shutdown

O

I just installed XP Pro and some programs onto a new Athlon 2400 machine
I got for Christmas. However, shutdown has already become a bit slow. I
notice the machine sitting there for about 20 seconds with no disk
accesses during the "Windows is shutting down..." blue screen. I realize
20 seconds isn't a lot of time compared to the 2+ minutes others have
experienced, but I would still like to get to the bottom of this
nonetheless, even if just for my own personal edification.

I've visited the Websites mentioned in other posts searching for a
solution, but to no avail. I have an ATI Radeon 9000, so no GeForce
driver issues. I don't have Terminal Services enabled, I don't have the
Clear Page File flag, and I haven't mucked around with GPEDIT. Also,
this problem comes up even if I don't log in to any account (simply turn
off as soon as I get to the Welcome screen). I'm hoping to solve the
problem without depending on more software or going through the pain of
reformatting. I don't know after which of the following programs
shutdown became slow, but I do know that everything was very quick right
after installing the OS.

---Installed programs (unordered)---

Windows XP Pro
IIS
Office 2003
Visio 2003
Visual Studio .NET 2003
Acrobat 6 (full)
QuickTime 6
Flash Player
AVG Antivirus (free edition)
7-Zip
All Windows Updates (incl. non-criticals)

------------------------------------

The only programs in the registry startup keys are qttask, AVG, Acrobat
Assistant, and IME-related stuff (ctfmon, etc.).

I'm wondering if this is possibly because of a virus. I highly doubt it,
I'm behind a NAT box, and AVG didn't pick up anything, but I'm not sure
why I listen on some of the ports listed below. (I installed IIS because
I need it to learn .NET Web app development, but I don't know much about
it.) As I don't have much insight into this area, if anything looks
suspicious, please feel free to let me know! (192.168.2.100 is the other
system on my LAN, and I have Windows File/Printer Sharing on.)

This whole problem seems very strange because this is such a fresh
system, and I haven't exactly installed any obscure apps on it or
configured anything. And I've even been rebooting after every single
installation prompting me to do so! Anyway, if anybody can offer any
hints, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, and happy holidays.

Hi Kelly, thanks for your reply. I had already checked out your site
earlier, and I didn't find anything related to slow shutdowns.

My computer powers off fine.

I don't need to log in for this to happen, hence there are no tasks to
begin with.

I don't need a console utility.
