Slow Shut Down?

On a fairly new XP (SP2) system, is it normal to have the "Logging Off"
screen display for close to 60 seconds, the "Windows is shutting down"
screen display for about 30 seconds and then a black screen with just
the white cursor display for about 5 seconds before the computer totally
shuts down?

Do you Shut Down programmes before selecting Start, Shutdown, Turn Off?

Hope this helps.

Yes, no programs are left open before I do a shutdown. I even use the
MS "hive cleaner" shutdown helper to make sure everything is closed first.

Hi,

Start Registry Editor and navigate to the following key (Please take
the Backup of the Registry) :

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

Set ClearPageFileAtShutdown value to 0

Or, using Group Policy Editor [for Windows XP Professional]

Click Start, Run and type Secpol.msc
Click Local Policies | Security Options
In the right-pane, set Shutdown: Clear virtual memory pagefile to
Disabled
